Stepping it up!

So excited about today's run.  Today I went from 4/1 run/walk to 9/1 run/walk.  I know that is quite a jump, but it felt great.  I ran the 9 minutes without issue.  We shall see what I can do on Thursday, but my legs have been good and my cardio is getting much better.  I have now lost about 39lbs, so that is helping out.  Praising the Lord for his help.  I have tried it on my own, but I know He is in it this time.  Till next time.

Great day #2!

Well It felt great today.  Another 3-1 run/walk.  It was about 2.6 miles.  The cool thing today was toward the end, when I normally am getting whooped, I actually felt great.  I think I could have kept going longer.  A strange feeling for sure.  I can definitely feel my legs getting a lot stronger and my endurance getting much better.  When I got done it wasn't very long to catch my breath and be back to normal.  Hopefully I can stick with it for the long haul.  Up to 30 lbs lost, so I am sure that is helping a ton.

Great day!

Well...  I must say things are going much better!!  I am up to 3-1 run-walk.  I feel a little tired, but that is to be expected.  One of the great things that has been happening as a result of this is my endurance in basketball.  I was sort of surprised how big of a difference it is.  Last night I played 2-3 games before I was even winded last night.  Feeling great to get in shape again.  Down about 27lbs so far.  Wish me luck!!

Todays run.

Back at it...

Well it has been about 10 months and I think I have a plan to see if I can get back on track.  I have not been pushing myself this time as hard an slowly easing into it.  I gave myself about 1 month of just walking to help build up the muscles in my shins to hopefully stop the severe pain.  The last couple weeks I have been able to slowly build up my jogging time to 2 minutes walking/1 minute running.  I am going to keep that up till next week when I am going to do 2 minutes running/2 minutes walking.  It has been great so far.
Also I have started to eat well(except for last Monday's shrimp fest).  So far I am down 26lbs and I know that is helping me run without as much pain.  I am using a program on my phone called Noom Weight Loss Coach and it has been so easy to help me track what I am eating.  I am going to try and keep this up to date.

Trying again...

It has been almost 2 months since I wrote on this and I REALLY need to get in better shape.  With basketball starting in a couple weeks I am back out on the beat.  I started with a beginners running training.  1 minute of running then 1 minute of walking.  Overall it wasn't too bad, but when I got home and sat down my shins were on fire.  While I was running they were not hurting too bad though, so I made it though 20 minutes while alternating.  I will get back out there on Thursday and see how it goes.

New sneakers. WOOT!! (running shoes)

Well I have been doing a lot of reading about running and how shoes effect it.  Last night I went to Fleet Feet over on Monroe Ave.  They went over a bunch of different things about how my feet are and how they land and pronate.  I never knew that much went into just running down the road.  Anyway I ended up getting some new running shoes, arch supports( I have high arches) and some new running socks.  The socks are awesome.  I think I might wear them around normally.  I got a pair of Saucony Progrid Guide 4 shoes.  They have been great so far.  I went for a little run today and felt good.  Getting used to the arch support was a little tougher.  It feels like a ball under my arch, but they said it could take a couple weeks to get used to.  Running didn't go much better today, but the GPS on my phone worked so that is a positive.  I am just going to keep taking it easy for a couple weeks to let my shins get used to it.  They were my bane once again today and I had to stop and walk about a third of the way through my 20 minutes.  Oh well.

Frustrating...

Well day 2 of running.  I tried to take it easy on my shins today.  I ran for about 4 minutes then walked.  My shins were good for about 2 rounds of that and then the pain kicked.  I only got about 1.6 miles in since my shins were again killing me.  I know there will be a payoff to this in the end.  It is just frustrating that its not my leg muscles or lungs that are giving out, but these shin splints.  All the time I played basketball last year I never had them.  I played basketball a couple times this month and haven't had an issue with my shins.  I guess its just a different type of exercise and I need to get used to being in pain for a while.  Still staying strong.
